City Discusses Inclusion (Diversity) Committee

At the July 7, 2020 work session of the City Council, council members discussed the idea of developing a City Board or Commission that would address diversity and inclusion issues relating to the city. At this work session, Council Member Bill Woodard was appointed as liaison between the community and council as this idea developed.

Our representative from Frisco Pride attempted to make contact with the organization that had presented to the council work session under invitation from Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney leading up to the presentation and following. The initial request was made June 18, and no responses have been provided seeking information to the composition of, or involvement with this organization.

On July 13, we engaged with Council Member Bill Woodard to learn more about the future development of this Board or Commission, and to seek information to become more involved in the community organization that the City had invited to the work session. We welcome the appointment of Mr. Woodard to this role, and believe that his significant contributions to the City over the past number of years makes him the best choice for this task. During our conversation, we did express concern over the lack of information, communication and engagement from the City’s ad-hoc committee.

Following those additional attempts, Diversity Frisco is launching our own initiative to partner with individuals and community organizations that are representative of all our diverse city.
